Team Germany in general and goal-keeper Lena Baccus in particular would answer for an astonishing performance against Switzerland.

Team Swizerland have impressed during the WU19 WFC so far by winning all previous games in group A. During their last game of the group stage, they would get a tougher time than expected in the battle against Germany. In the first period team Switzerland controlled the game and created several great opportunities to score, but Germany played great defence and would give the Swiss team a really difficult time. The Germans even took the lead in the beginning of the second period by a goal from Leonie Vogt. Switzerland would then continue to push forward, but Germany refused to give in and managed to keep the leading position through the rest of the period, partly because of an amazing performance of their goal-keeper Lena Baccus.

–  I think I fought to the end and every minute of the game, says Baccus.

The third period would offer an immense thrill. Team Switzerland kept doing everything they possibly could to score, but the goal would not come easy. With just 25 seconds left Switzerland finally succeeded when playing 6 against 5.

–  It was really important. I also think it was important for tomorrow’s game, that we have this feeling that we can also turn a game, says MVP for team Switzerland Melea Grossenbacher.

The final result is thereby stated 1-1 and team Swizerland proceed to the semi-final without defeat.

MVP Switzerland: Melea Grossenbacher

MVP Germany: Lena Baccus.
